Yorkshire Rams @ Manchester Titans 19/06/2011

Yorkshire Rams 29-12 Manchester Titans

The Manchester Titans American Football team held their first home game of the season on Sunday at their new ground of Aldwinians RUFC in Audenshaw.
A crowd of around 200 turned out to cheer on the newly promoted Titans, who were BritBowl finalists last season.

Manchester should have taken an early lead but WR Will Kinghorn couldn’t hold onto QB Alan Mead’s pass in the endzone. Kicker Ryan Farrell’s field goal was missed leaving the first quarter scoreless.

Yorkshire took 7-0 lead in the 2nd Quarter through a 2 yard touchdown run and successful conversion but Kinghorn later made amends with a spectacular 58 yard touchdown catch and run. However the Rams blocked the kick and returned it for two points and with just seconds to play in the half, Yorkshire broke a 39 yard run for another score and a 16-6 half-time lead.

The 3rd Quarter was scoreless but the Titans opened the 4th Quarter with Mead’s 2nd TD pass – this time to WR Adam Simms to bring the scores to 16-12.
Yorkshire immediately responded with another TD to extend the lead back to 10.

WR Ben Barker thought he had scored his first ever TD from 39 yards but a penalty brought the play back. When a 4th Down pass intended for TE Ste Kimmins was knocked down in the endzone, the Titans best chance of a comeback victory was over. Yorkshire added a final score in the dying minutes for a 29-12 win.

The Titans now welcome the Gateshead Senators to Aldwinians on Sunday 26th July which will be a double-header fixture with both the Junior & Senior teams playing from 12noon.
